Job Description: The Beasley Lab (https://beasleywildlifelab.srel.uga.edu/home) at University of Georgia is soliciting applications for a motivated research technician to assist with projects researching and managing invasive and native species on the Georgia coast. The main responsibilities will include assisting with live trapping and radio collaring wild pigs and white-tailed deer which involves scouting and maintaining bait sites, maintaining remote cameras, putting up and taking down traps, sampling dispatched wild pigs, and handling chemically immobilized animals. Other main responsibilities include conducting baited remote camera surveys, processing those camera images for population estimates, and building and maintaining ungulate exclosures. Additional duties may include using radio telemetry to locate collared animals, data management in excel, maintaining field equipment, and other related tasks as projects develop. The anticipated start date for the position(s) is early January 2027 but we welcome earlier start dates if the applicant is available and is expected to last 6-8 months. Qualifications: A B.S. in wildlife ecology or a related field, or students working towards a degree in these fields is required. We are looking for self-motivated, responsible, and efficient individuals, and preference will be given to applicants possessing both strong field and organizational skills. Preference also will be given to candidates with experience capturing and handling wildlife, specifically large mammals, conducting remote camera surveys, and game camera processing. The candidates must be able to work long days outdoors in variable weather conditions with biting insects and be able to lift and carry heavy objects. The candidate will be working on remote barrier islands that are only accessible by boat with very limited amenities so they must be comfortable with planning for situations when luxuries are not readily accessible and must be self-sufficient. Other helpful qualifications include the ability to mechanically repair equipment in the field, ability to use firearms (or at least be comfortable around them), and strong navigation skills. Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate commitment to timely completion of deliverables and the ability to work independently and in a team setting. This position will be located on the Georgia coast with work occurring on Blackbeard National Wildlife Refuge, Sapelo Island, Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge, and potentially other locations. We work with a variety of collaborators so the ability to effectively communicate and conduct yourself in a professional way is required and previous work with multiple agencies is a benefit.
