Quantitative Human-Predator Conflict Researcher

USDA APHIS WS National Wildlife Research Center · Utah · posted 5 days ago

The Utah Field Station of the USDA APHIS WS National Wildlife Research Center is hiring a position posted on USAJobs for a quantitative human-predator conflict GS-11/12 position based in Millville, UT, just 20 minutes south of Utah State University and Logan, UT. This is a permanent position, expected to hire at the PhD level, though well qualified applicants with an MS degree will be considered. The position is bundled into a “SuperMega” announcement that includes other positions at this same grade (11/12) and series (0401) across multiple agencies, so the actual job announcement is very vague and unhelpful, so I am posting here as well. Please forward this announcement to any who may be interested in this position. The expectation is that this position will conduct quantitative focused research within the field of human-predator conflict that could include large-scale predictive modeling of potential future conflicts with coyotes, wolves, black and grizzly bears, mountain lions, eagles, ravens, and caracaras, large-scale comparisons of conflict prevention tools commonly used by USDA Wildlife Services, or other research into conflict with the species listed above. They will also provide statistical support and guidance to the other researchers and biologists (4) within the Predator Project at the Utah Field Station. This could include assistance with study design and data collection protocols, advice on appropriate statistical analyses and tools, conducting statistical analyses, and support in interpretation and writing of the results, depending on the needs of the specific project/researcher. There is also opportunity to use the captive coyote colony at the Utah Field Station for research projects. The ability to build relationships and obtain external funding to support these projects is important. You can find the posting here: https://www.usajobs.gov/job/886236100?fromemail=true.
