INTRODUCTION Aquarium at the Boardwalk in Branson, MO has a deep commitment to the animals in our care and a passion for creating a uniquely fun and engaging environment for our Guests. Since opening on November 23, 2020, visitors have connected with more than 200 species of fish and invertebrates across 300,000+ gallons of saltwater, spanning 36 immersive exhibits. As we continue to grow, we are expanding our team with a full-time Diving Safety Officer who demonstrates a commitment to safety and to advancing the mission of Aquarium at the Boardwalk. GENERAL DESCRIPTION Reporting to the Director of Husbandry, the Diving Safety Officer is responsible for the development, management, and safe operation of the Aquarium at the Boardwalk dive program. This position provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of dive safety, including policies and procedures, diver training and qualification, equipment management, emergency preparedness, record keeping, and regulatory compliance. The Diving Safety Officer serves as the institutional subject matter expert for diving operations and works collaboratively with all departments to safely integrate diving activities into animal care, exhibit maintenance, and facility operations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Dive Program Management & Safety • Oversee and exercise authority over the safe operation of all Aquarium at the Boardwalk diving activities • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the Diving Safety Manual, standard operating procedures, and other dive safety policies • Ensure diving operations comply with institutional requirements, applicable regulations, professional diving standards, AZA accreditation standards, and industry best practices • Evaluate diving practices, conditions, equipment, and diver readiness to identify and mitigate potential hazards • Coordinate and facilitate Diving Control Board meetings and support the Board in the oversight and continuous improvement of the institutional dive program Dive Operations • Routinely participate in aquarium dive operations as a diver, DPIC, standby diver, and tender • Coordinate dive activities to support animal care, exhibit maintenance, life support, facility maintenance, and other institutional needs • Ensure appropriate pre-dive planning, briefings, safety checks, and post-dive documentation are completed • Coordinate non-routine and contracted diving activities in collaboration with Husbandry, Life Support, Maintenance, and other departments as appropriate Diver Training & Qualification • Conduct and coordinate onboarding, diver training, skills assessments, and continuing education • Coordinate and provide CPR, AED, First Aid, emergency oxygen, and other dive-related safety training as appropriate • Ensure diver certifications, medical evaluations, training requirements, and other qualifications remain current • Coordinate and oversee routine dive safety and emergency response drills Equipment & Emergency Preparedness • Conduct the inspection, maintenance, service, repair, inventory, and replacement of SCUBA and dive-related equipment according to manufacturer recommendations, institutional requirements, and applicable professional standards • Oversee the safe operation and preventative maintenance of the Aquarium's compressor and cylinder fill station • Maintain emergency and first aid equipment and ensure equipment is readily available and operational Program Administration & Record Keeping • Maintain accurate and current dive program records, including dive logs, diver qualifications, medical clearances, certifications, training, emergency drills, equipment inspections and maintenance, SOPs, and other required documentation • Assist with development and management of the dive program budget and operate within approved financial resources • Support documentation and preparation associated with regulatory inspections, AZA accreditation, and institutional safety reviews Interdepartmental Coordination • Collaborate with Husbandry, Life Support, Maintenance, Veterinary, and other departments to safely integrate diving operations into animal care, exhibit maintenance, and facility operations • Communicate dive program needs, safety concerns, equipment issues, and operational recommendations to the Director of Husbandry and appropriate institutional leaders General Duties • Maintain dive equipment storage areas, compressor areas, and associated workspaces to the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety • Represent Aquarium at the Boardwalk professionally when interacting with other institutions, professional organizations, vendors, and industry partners • Demonstrate flexibility in completing duties that may require work outside normal operating hours, including weekends, holidays, and emergency response REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree in biology, marine biology, marine science, or a related field • Minimum five (5) years of professional diving experience within an aquarium environment • Current SCUBA Instructor certification from a nationally recognized certification agency • Current CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor and Emergency Oxygen Provider Instructor • SCUBAPRO equipment repair technician and Visual cylinder inspection certifications or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire • Thorough knowledge of professional diving safety practices, diving physiology, emergency procedures, and SCUBA equipment, as applicable to aquarium diving • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and maintain dive safety policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures • Ability to routinely perform aquarium diving activities and fulfill the physical requirements associated with professional diving and dive operations • Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and outside normal working hours as operational or emergency needs require • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills WHAT WE
