Forest Wildlife Specialist - Tennessee Private Lands Ruffed Grouse Society & American Woodcock Society Home office within northeastern Tennessee, serving the Cumberland Plateau. Full-time, 2-year term; frequent travel for field work. Close date: October 16, 2026, or until filled. RGS & AWS, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy, NRCS-TN and others, seeks a conservation forester to lead sustainable forest management on private lands benefiting imperiled wildlife, livelihoods, oak-pine composition and forest health. Prepare NRCS-compliant Forest Management Plans and provide technical assistance/outreach. QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in forestry or related field, preferably with forest-stand improvement and wildlife-conservation coursework/experience. Knowledge of active forest management and wildlife objectives; forest inventory tools/software; site-specific plans; and private-landowner work. Ability to identify eastern Tennessee tree species, manage projects and schedules independently, meet deadlines and solve problems. GPS, ArcGIS and Microsoft Office experience preferred. Excellent communication; willing and able to work in challenging conditions and drive 4WD vehicles on remote roads. NRCS knowledge preferred. DUTIES: Provide outreach and technical assistance to eligible landowners; conduct forest inventories, analyze data and develop treatment prescriptions; prepare NRCS-compliant plans through EQIP and Working Lands for Wildlife; assist with layout/marking habitat practices; lead education/outreach; and perform mapping, monitoring, recordkeeping and reporting. Reports to the Southern Appalachian Forest Conservation Director; 6-month probation. Salary $44,000–$68,000; PTO, health, retirement contribution, vehicle/mileage and equipment.
