Lead Safari Keeper Position Overview: Wildlife World Zoo is seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Safari Keeper to provide leadership for the daily management of the diverse animal collection within our Safari Park. The Safari collection includes large and small hoof stock, birds, primates, and small/medium carnivores. The Lead Safari Keeper will serve as a hands-on supervisor, working alongside keeper staff to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare, husbandry, and safety. This position will provide day-to-day leadership to the Safari team. The Lead Safari Keeper will be responsible for establishing priorities, coordinating daily assignments, participating in animal husbandry and training projects, and ensuring effective communication between keeper staff and management. The Lead Safari Keeper will be responsible for fostering a positive, collaborative, and professional team environment while promoting consistency, accountability, and excellence in animal care. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, sound judgment, effective communication, and a commitment to advancing best practices in animal husbandry and welfare. Preferred qualifications: ● A minimum of five (5) years experience working with large hoofstock ● A minimum of three (3) years experience in a supervisory role ● A strong knowledge of animal husbandry, nutrition, enrichment, operant conditioning, and behavioral observation ● Demonstrated ability to drive and operate trucks and other vehicles Requirements ● Must be able to lift 50 pounds ● Possession of a valid driver's license ● Must be able to work in all weather conditions, including 120+ degree temperatures ● Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl and walk on uneven surfaces ● Demonstrated emotional intelligence through effective communication, sound judgment, and respectful interactions with employees, peers, and guests.
