Description The Centro de Rescate de Especies Marinas Amenazadas (CREMA) is a non-profit scientific organization dedicated to the conservation and research of marine megafauna in Costa Rica. We are seeking highly motivated students and recent graduates in Biology, Environmental Science, Marine Biology, or related fields to join our team as Research Assistants in a long-term sea turtle monitoring program. This is an intensive, field-based experience where participants actively contribute to ongoing conservation research while receiving hands-on training in ecological field methods. Responsibilities Participants will be involved in: • Nightly beach patrols for nesting activity • Nest monitoring and data collection following standardized protocols • Tagging and identification of nesting females • Hatchling emergence monitoring and excavation • Biometric measurements and biological sampling (when applicable) • Data entry and basic data management Preferences • Academic background in Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or related field • Willingness to work long and irregular hours (mostly nights) • Ability to work in physically demanding tropical field conditions • Strong interest in wildlife conservation and research • Ability to live and work in a remote field station setting What you will gain • Extensive hands-on experience in sea turtle research and conservation • Training in standardized field and data collection techniques • Direct involvement in an active long-term research project • Mentorship from experienced field researchers • Certificate of participation This is a self-funded field research program. A participation fee is required and covers: • Accommodation • 3 Meals per day • Training, supervision, and logistical support • Field equipment and research operations CREMA is a non-profit organization; all fees are used exclusively to support conservation and research activities.
